Exhibition: XicanX Futurity, 2019

JANUARY 29 2019 - MAY 5, 2019

OPENING RECEPTION: SUNDAY, JANUARY 27, 2018, 2:00 - 4:00 PM

Xicanx Futurity focuses on the work of six Xicana artists: Celia Herrera Rodríguez, Felicia “Fe” Montes, Gina Aparicio, Gilda Posada, Melanie Cervantes and Margaret “Quica” Alarcon.  These artists engage in an intergenerational dialogue that centers Indigenous forms of communal and hemispheric ceremony, rooted in sacred relations. Collectively, their respective artistic practices inform an emerging conceptual and aesthetic decolonial social practice within Chicana/o/x Art. It is a good mix of media with meaningful, layered narratives and what Karen Nikos-Rose describes as "...indigenous forms of communal and hemispheric ceremony, rooted in sacred practices."

I am very honored and excited to be chosen to be part of the upcoming group exhibition: XicanX Futurity. The opening celebration: 2p-4p on Sunday, January, 27 with food, performance and a panel discussion.

I've known, worked and prayed with many of these women for over 20 years and the installation experience at the museum became a deeper cultural exchange for us, so I wanted to share some images of this process.
