2nd Grade - Paper Mosaic Sharks

After reading “Dream Something Big” by Dianna H. Aston, my 2nd graders made paper mosaic sharks. We talked about geometry, the mosaic process, Simon Rodilla and the famous Watts Towers, and the biology and history of sharks. We even talked about "Megalodon" the famous prehistoric shark! We used triangles to draw our sharks and oil pastels to mimic the “mortar” between our tiles. We took lots of time and care to cut and glue our tiles to fit inside our sharks.
